The Old House on the Hill
There once was an old house on a hill
It was long ago but the memories are still
There was six of us kids five sisters and a brother
A family of eight counting father and mother
There was happiness and laughter and Love for us all
My daddy worked hard and complained not at all
We'd sit at the table with oil lamps for light
Did our reading and homework and then said goodnight
Daddy would make us say our prayers
Then off to bed up those creeky old stairs
The old house was comfortable with woodstoves for heat
And we all did our share to keep the place neat
When mom did spring cleaning she would paper and paint
With news mats on the floor the old house looked so quaint
At home we were happy and still had out dreams
So we moved to the city when we became teens
When we left that old house it stood all alone
Where ever we went it was still called home
We lived there we played there we laughed and we cried
But those were the happiest days of our lives
As the years crept on it the old house grew week
It showed its old age from the floor to the peak
The paint was all faded the old doors were all worn
It stood there alone as it weathered to storms
Now my old house is gone but the memories are still
I shall never forget the old house on the hill
