Connie:     Oh yeah, my father had farmland he used to raise cattle, that's the only way we got along.

Barb:     How many cows would he have at one time?

Connie:     Oh he didn't have a whole lot, maybe about 2 cows and about 4 or 5 oxen. He had a couple of horses, and he raised pigs and then he killed them in the fall and that's how come I hate pork

Nathaniel:     Because you had to watch

Barb:     And you had to string them up?

Connie:     Yes, and hear them squealing

(Music)

Connie:     In the fall he would take the cattle where they had the manor, spread that all over the grass and when it would be high enough he'd mow that all down and we used to have to go out and make that all up. Spread all the hay around in the morning spread that all out then at noon we'd turn it all over. He had some big fields too all the way up and down, he had a lot of fields then.
