Barb: So how often and what for would you go to the city?
Florence: I didn't get to the city too often.
Nathaniel: Do you remember your first time?
Florence: My first time, you know, I used to sit and see the man next door had a car and my Mother and Father used to hire him to go to the city.
Nathaniel: Who was that?
Florence: His name was Richard Slaunwhite, and ah I would be standing in the yard, I would be very small, I wasn't allowed to go I had to stay home, my grandparents was there of course and you stayed there and played on the swing and whatever. But one time I remember they did take me. Driving in the Bay Road, seeing all these glass balls up on the poles and thought, oh gosh are those candy? The colours they were green and blue and red and I thought they were so beautiful I never saw anything like it. And ah they said no they had something to do with the electricity, and I thought that was really something and I didn't get to town too much after that only until I met my husband.
